Director of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting - Clear Succession Path + Equity - HEMPHILL EXCLUSIVE!

Hemphill is proud to partner with one of the most highly thought of and successful organizations in the state of Nebraska as they add an impressive and promotable individual to their Corporate Accounting team. This is an important role within the organization and the future of the Corporate Accounting group, and will be best matched for someone who has found success in a larger regional or Big 4 CPA firm environment and has built a reputation for being technically strong, a great leader, a problem solver, and someone who becomes the “go-to” person when a difficult question needs to be answered. Whether you are currently a Senior Audit Manager, a high performing audit manager, or have already built an impressive career in private industry, this position will be one worth discussing further!

We are searching for an individual who has big plans for themselves professionally, as this position is being created as part of a succession plan within the Corporate Accounting Department. You will work closely with the CFO, Corporate Controller, and other key executive leaders while being intentionally positioned to have more exposure and greater responsibility in the years ahead. As the business continues to grow, you will gain increasing exposure to important transactions, complex accounting matters, and broader areas of responsibility, while continuing to build relationships and your reputation within the corporate office.

Core Responsibilities & Exposures:

  • Complex Transactions & Corporate Accounting: This is a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization that continues to grow and evolve, so your work will extend well beyond a traditional close-and-reporting role. You will see acquisitions, business combinations, integration, consolidated financial reporting, and other complex transactions and deals throughout the year, which will be fun, challenging, and not repetitive.
  • Technical Accounting & Critical Thinking: You will become a key resource for researching and resolving complex accounting questions - You will see everything from purchase accounting, equity and investment accounting, derivatives, revenue recognition, leases, debt compliance, consolidations, and other unique transactions. We are looking for someone who can run independently while researching, develop a thoughtful conclusion, & communicate it clearly to senior leadership, and then help translate that knowledge to more junior staff.
  • SOX & Internal Controls: Corporate Accounting owns the company's internal control environment, giving you significant exposure to the SOX program while also providing an excellent opportunity to learn the business & build relationships across business segments. Divisional and operational leaders will regularly look to you for guidance on control-related questions, so you will enjoy building plenty of relationships!
  • SEC Reporting: You will be involved in the preparation of the company's 10-K and 10-Q filings while incrementally developing toward primary ownership of the financial reporting function over time. This will give you excellent visibility into the broader organization and regular collaboration with business and executive leaders.
  • Autonomy & Problem Solving: This is not a role built around a rigid daily or monthly task list. The Corporate Accounting team largely creates its own priorities based on what is happening across the business at any given time. The right person will be highly self-directed, productive, comfortable operating without a roadmap, and someone who enjoys figuring things out and moving things forward.

This will be a particularly attractive position for someone who is driven, well spoken, strong technically, and most of all passionate about becoming an executive member of one of the most highly regarded Corporate Accounting groups in the region. You will have the opportunity to work alongside exceptional leaders, all of whom were high performers in public accounting and have gone on to find tremendous success within this company.

There will be plenty of exciting opportunities to see unique and complex transactions while being on the front lines of acquisitions, integration, systems and process improvement projects, and growth initiatives. There will be plenty to look forward to professionally within this business, while also not needing to wait until that point to be taken care of financially. This position offers an incredibly generous base salary + annual cash bonus +a very attractive equity offering that can provide a level of long-term financial security that is difficult to find elsewhere.  Beautiful and newly renovated corporate office, hybrid work schedule, and a number of attractive perks within their benefits package.  Reach out to learn more!
